Military Reservists and National Guard
Recognizing the special burdens that members of the military may encounter in trying to meet their financial obligations while serving their country, Congress passed the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act of 1940 (SSCRA). SSCRA provides benefits such as reducing the interest rate on arrears from 10% to 6% while on active duty. Active service members can also be appointed legal counsel before a default order is established.
