What you need to know:
There has been a change in the law that stopped the Maximum Family Grant (MFG) Rule. Starting January 1, 2017, children who were not getting cash aid because of the MFG rule will now be eligible for CalWORKs cash aid. Children born after January 1, 2017 will also be eligible for CalWORKs cash aid.
Your CalWORKs worker sent you a letter to tell you about this change, and you might have also received a letter from the Department of Child Support Services.
How will this affect your CalWORKs grant?
If your child was not included in your CalWORKs grant because of the MFG rule, they will be included in the CalWORKs grant beginning January 1, 2017, and your cash aid may increase.
Please call your CalWORKs eligibility worker if you have questions about your cash aid.
How will this affect your child support payments?
You will receive the first $50 of child support collected each month. This is called a “disregard” payment. Any child support collected over the $50 will be kept by the state to re-pay the cash assistance your family received from CalWORKs.
Please call 1-866-901-3212 to speak with a child support professional if you have questions about your child support.
